Critics Report: Asura Cryin’

October 22, 2010

This Anime is Awarded:

You will have to put a lot of effort to follow this show and frankly you will get little reward for your troubles. Many aspects have a lot of content to them, rules, ins and outs that you need to know to follow the show. However even with all of that I still have no idea what is going on with this show. (more…)

Critic’s Report: Asatte no Houkou

February 17, 2010

This anime is awarded:

Karada is a young girl who hates being treated like a child and who wishes to be grown up. Shoko is an aloof, unhappy young woman who has just returned from overseas. When they meet by coincidence one night at a local shrine where they both like to make wishes, they exchange ages.  Ive never seen an anime where people exchange bodies, minds or anything. So, seeing something like this was a new deal for me. However, the plot is so much different than just switches. It may move really slow at times, but the character development and story is amazing. The story focuses more on Hiro and Shouko’s relationship, and the drama that Harada is put through after just being 12 years old. I even cried all the way through one of the episodes. (more…)

Critic’s Report: Angelic Layer

February 10, 2010

This anime is awarded:

Like most tournament shows, the themes of doing your best and friendship pervade the experience. A doll used in the Angelic Fights is usually treated by her (or rarely, his) owner (deus) as though it were a dear friend, with concerned cries going out when they are injured. Unlike most competition shows, however, Angelic Layer isn’t treated as the be-all-end-all of life. Characters who take it too seriously end up losing to Misaki and come to see that winning is less important than making friends and having fun. That’s not to say the entire show is light-hearted and gay; Misaki’s personal mantra seems to be: I’ll do my best in spite of my tiny size! (more…)

Critic’s Report: Amatsuki

February 5, 2010

This anime is awarded:

Passed during a mysterious parallel thought of Edo period, Amatsuki is a very interesting anime that explores the relationship between the basic religious classes of Shinto: Demons, Humans, Kami and the Heaven. (more…)

Critic’s Report: Akikan!

January 30, 2010

This anime is awarded:

If you like the idea of a show that is entertaining, self-satirical, has ‘colorful’ characters and manages to save a little room for serious stuff, this could be the show for you. If you are really into deep, complex characters with intricate winding plot twists and you looove super serious business 24/7, this is probably not the series for you. (more…)

Critic’s Report: Akazukin Chacha

January 29, 2010

This anime is awarded:

Akazukin Cha Cha is a surprisingly smart comedy series that is laden with cultural jokes, word plays, and takes from other anime series. It’s a very cute and funny anime, with a wild gang of crazy characters that make each episode exciting. It’s a magical girl show, so I’m sure people will be put off by the fact that every episode ends with Chacha transforming and defeating the enemy. Well, that’s not what makes the show hilarious/enjoyable/entertaining … it’s what’s before! (more…)

Critic’s Report: Air Gear

January 20, 2010

This anime is awarded:

Air Gear is one of those anime shows that you will either love to death or be turned away from it by its weird style. Its very….how should I put it, “open,” in a way like Tenjou Tenje is. The girls are revealing, the main character, Ikki, has no shame (as this is shown by him taking a dump in front of EVERYONE while a skating match is going on). Nevertheless, if you enjoy this kind of humor or can get by it, Air Gear shapes up to be a good introduction anime from its manga counterpart. (more…)

Critic’s Report: Ah! My Goddess

January 17, 2010

This anime is awarded:

It’s difficult to review a show that defines why you enjoy anime, especially when it’s not critically acclaimed. This said, Ah! My Goddess(also known as Oh! My Goddess), is a show that I will hold dear for quite some time. Let’s face it, the show has charm. The show, while quirky and admittedly cheesy, will forever remain one of my favorites. I immediately connected with Keiichi, but the true “ringer” was Belldandy. Never have I witnessed a female character that has drawn me in as Belldandy has. (more…)

Critic’s Report: AD Police

January 8, 2010

This anime is awarded:

AD Police is the kind of show that would really benefit from being condensed into a movie or an OVA. If you stripped out about half of the dragged out scenes and needless exposition you’d have an accidentally entertaining piece. There is no denying that AD Police is bad, the only question with these kinds of shows is “can you squeeze any kind of amusement out of it?” Or as the show itself likes to phrase it, “Just how bad can things get?” Indeed, an astute observation on the part of the creators of this show. That is the question you will find yourself asking after every installment. This show gets pretty ridiculous and there are a handful of scenes that are unintentionally funny. (more…)

Critic’s Report: A Little Snow Fairy Sugar

October 26, 2009

This Anime has been Awarded:

4

I like this anime very much, I have seen the whole series. Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar is just too cute for words. Yet, despite it’s adorable factor, I can honestly say this anime can make a person cry in the end. However, great as this anime is, it has many fillers… and faults. Thus, “A Little Snow Fairy Sugar” receives a 3/5 Star or an “Average” rating.
